I often dreamed of working beside the European masters, in the days before photography.  These masters became my passion, especially the masters of European portraiture.

My portrait techniques use color masses to define the subject, to create the illusion of a smooth surface without the use of line. The eye views these masses as if the colors had been blended together, but up close you can see the brush strokes.

I believe an oil portrait is the highest form of art. Portraits capture a moment in time for later generations to see how we lived and what we valued .
